MICKROACH

These cockroaches survived the radiation of my microwave. $Mickroach is invincible.

File 01

We spent billions looking for alien life. It was in the kitchen.

Origin

One box, one button

No lab, no funding, no ethics committee. Just an appliance nobody cleans and a door we close without looking. Evolution has never asked for more than that.

Exposure

2450 MHz, daily

We call it reheating dinner. They call it a training programme. The difference is that they took notes.

Result

Reflective shell

The chitin now sends the waves back at the emitter. We invented an oven that cooks its owner. They call it self-defence.

Microwave control panel showing 1:13 with two cockroaches on the display

Control panel, original photograph. Two individuals visible: one stationed on the 3, the other already bottom-right, outside the official frame. The timer reads 1:13 — and nobody had set it.

Exhibit A

This is not a laboratory. It is the microwave of the person who built this site.

No funding, no protocol, no lab coat. An entry-level model, four buttons labelled in French, a gold dial that no longer turns quite straight. That is where the species appeared one evening, between two sets of leftovers. We would have preferred a more prestigious discovery. Evolution takes what it is left: heat, sugar, and nobody cleaning up.

Photographed at 11:41 pm, through the glass. It wasn't fleeing. It was waiting to see whether we would really press start.
